6 Weeks Old!

This week was fun! There’s so much going on at this age that it’s hard to keep up with reports. The puppies are doing all kinds of awesome with their training, routinely offering to sit when they want something, which has been well-rewarded with tiny bits of cheddar cheese. They even demonstrated this to our vet and staff at their appointment today!

Waiting their turn to get up on the table for their exams.
Polite greetings for vet tech Martina!

Besides their polite sits, they have been busy being nimble and confident. Several times a day, we bring out a variety of toys and obstacles like the wobble board, balance pads, etc, and the puppies can choose to play on and around them. On our walks, we keep things interesting by going in a slightly different place each day. Today, for example, we tried our hand at the ‘photo log’ (which is where I usually pose dogs for photos, though the snow allowed the babies to just climb over it! and we climbed up and down some bigger snow piles. Fun!

Today was an especially big day for our paw patrollers. Vet exam day! Before we packed up to go to see Dr. Bianca, we had to make sure we had a big, busy day. Being a little on the tired side makes travel and exams a bit easier, so we had a pretty good play outside in the mild weather. I don’t know what sort of miracle happened but every puppy was incredibly photogenic while we were out there- enjoy this assortment of cute pics!

Also, a quick encounter with our frisky kitty Gollum:

The puppies did exceptionally well on their travel, napping in their crates on the way to the clinic. Once there, they immediately began to explore the room and remove or gnaw on anything that wasn’t permanently nailed down- pretty typical baby puppy behavior! They were brave and relaxed during their exams and besides the cute polite sitting, they had some pretty good playtimes and then were just ready to settle in for a nap when it was time to pack up and go home. When we got home- about 2 hours after our initial departure, every puppy was eager to get out of their crates and they all quickly had a big pee!

A few more photos from the clinic. By the way, they have been deemed healthy and in great condition!

From now on, time will start to go really quickly (at least for me! Probably not as much for the puppy families!) We are busy adventuring, training, and socializing daily and in just one week, we’ll be having our Show Dog Day structural evaluations, with puppy matching to follow shortly after that!
